Christmas Tamata ornaments

This year I was Inspired to make christmas ornaments from the Greek orthodox Tamata
Tamata are votive offerings or promises made of rectangular pieces of metal with miniature embossed body parts shaped on them. They are made of tin, silver or gold. Greeks then take the tama to the church of their choice and tie it with a ribbon to a horizontal pole under the icon or painting of their chosen saint. Tamata conveniently have holes at one end for the purpose. Tamata are the symbols of the miracle of healing which is hoped to occur, or has already occurred. They are the vehicle in which we invest our faith. So they are an integral part of the miracle. Tamata are a link between the person and the Holy spirit.

Tamata may be compared to the Milagros traditionally used for healing purposes and as votive offerings in the Roman Catholic culture of Mexico, andLatin America.

Hand cutting the sharp metal sheet is the hardest part

Embossing needs imagination skills and a good wrist. Imagination to find any items useful to emboss life to your pattern and a good wrist to keep that hammer working.

Do not miss my next post
to see the patterns in detail
                       and purchase possibilities
